SearchBanner Adpublished: Sunday, January 29, 2012 SHIRLEY WHITCOMB SHIRLEY WHITCOMB Shirley Waters Whitcomb, 74, a native and long-time resident of Sebring, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Alfred "Ray" Waters and Willie Mae Waters, both of Sebring; former husband, Robert Cleckley Whitcomb Sr.; infant grandson, Taylor Kevin Whitcomb; brother, William Howard Waters; and sister, Cynthia Joy Chambers. Shirley was born in Sebring on Oct. 2, 1937 and graduated from Sebring High with the Class of 1955. She was a co-captain cheerleader for the Blue Streaks, a member of the band and various choral groups, was a nominee and participant in Florida Girls State, and was named Miss Sebring High. She was proud to be a 50-year member and Past Matron of the Sebring Chapter 126 Order of The Eastern Star. Shirley was compassionate, loving, a devoted mother and a kind friend to many. Survivors include her two sons, Robert Cleckley Whitcomb Jr. (and wife, Mary) of Suwanee, Ga. and Steven Waters Whitcomb (and wife, Alice) of Kernersville, N.C.; two daughters, Diane Elizabeth DePascale of Ormond Beach, Fla. and Sandra Leigh Meyer (and husband, Paul) of Longwood, Fla.; sister, Miriam Kauffman (and husband, Gordon) of Eddyville, Ky.; brothers-in-law, Glenn Whitcomb (and wife, Doris) of Baytown, Texas and Donald Whitcomb (and wife, Jean) of Paxton, Mass.; and eight grandchildren, Christopher Whitcomb, P.J., Brittany and Nicole DePascale, Ashleigh and Matthew Aubrey, and Candice and Alex Meyer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Sebring at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home at 10 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.
