Brush fire under control
SEBRING -- A large brush fire forced some people to flee their homes on the north side of Golf Hammock Thursday afternoon.

I will start off by pointing out how little you know about the subject on which you are commenting. The "Division of Forestry" actually changed it's name last year and is now known as the "Florida Forest Service." More importantly, though just as fasle, is the fact that the Florida Forest Service was NOT conducting a controlled burn which escaped. The actual facts are that we have not burned in that area for about 5 years. Some of the area that we burned 5 years ago burned again in this fire however that part of the fire was the least active and easier to stop due to the fact that we reduced the fuel load by burning it when we did. Another fact is that the local fire departments did a great job of protecting homes but could do little to stop the fire. The Florida Forest Service alone has the equipment and training to deal with such fires and the very organization that you blindly accused of causing the fire is the same organization that put it out. Quite cowardly not to sign your name!
Thank You!!! (by: Christine and Ellie - 3/21/2013)
A huge thanks to our Sheriff's department, all the different fire service departments and to our neighbors!

The Division of Forestry was doing a controlled burn out there today. I guess it escaped on them.
