Fourth arrest made in Doty murder

News-Sun staff reports

SEBRING - In a news release issued Wednesday morning, the Highlands County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Adriana Rodriguez, the fourth in the ongoing investigation of the murder of Aaron Doty on June 10.

According to the release, detectives received a warrant for her arrest, which was served by patrol deputies July 10.

Rodriguez, 21, of 2424 Pinewood Blvd, Sebring, is charged with tampering with physical evidence. She is alleged to have cleaned up blood at the scene of the murder the following day.

Rodriquez is not related to Jonathan Rodriguez, one of the two young men charged with Doty's murder.

Adriana Rodriguez is being held on $100,000 bond.

Aaron Doty, 20, was last seen at a party at 5504 Granada Blvd. in the Sun 'N Lake subdivision in Sebring at approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday, June 10. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on June 11, a burned body was found in the north end of the Sun 'N Lake Sebring subdivision, which was confirmed to be Doty. Arrest warrants for second degree murder, abuse of a dead human body and tampering with physical evidence were issued for Jonathan Ray Rodriguez, 22, of 5504 Granada Blvd. in Sebring and Kenneth Filipe, 19, of the same address, in connection with Doty's death.

Rodriguez and Filipe were arrested on June 13 in Orlando by the U.S. Marshal's Service Task-Force operating out of Orlando.

Nicole Hebert, 20, of 4400 Lewis Ave. in Sebring, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with accessory after the fact to a first degree or life felony. She allegedly transported Jonathan Rodriguez and Felipe out of the county while knowing they were wanted by law enforcement.

Hebert remains in Highlands County Jail. She was denied bond at her first court appearance.

Of this most recent arrest, Sheriff Susan Benton said, "As detectives continue the painstaking investigation of evaluating every detail in this case, it is clear that several people participated in different ways in this horrific crime.

"What continues to disturb me is what appears to be such a lack of good conscience by so many people who were aware of the beating, the burning, or participated in attempting to cover up the crime.

"Parents, please I beg you, know where your kids are and who they are with; local law enforcement continues to see large party gatherings with drugs and alcohol even involving some of the same young folks who were involved in this case. Who will be next?  Will it be your child? Help us help you."

Anyone with information on this case is requested to call Detective Barbara Hair at the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit, 402-7250. Anyone with information who wants to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS(8477), contact the organization on the internet at www.heartlandcrimestoppers.com. Generation.  (by: Angry  -   7/17/2012)

When I was their age(about 10 years ago), this kind of stuff was unheard of in this area. Sure there were a few losers, but they were harmless. We were mischievous at times, but not criminal. If someone absolutely needed to fight we'd arrange it, make a circle, and let them scrap for a few seconds, then break it up. Usually they were friends again afterward. These punks need to get jobs and take some responsibility. I also agree with the other post; If this boy would have been black there would be national attention with the two Reverends present. A few of these kids are probably innocent, but the ones who helped or watched need the chair! A terrible act of violence.

Hear This!  (by: A citizen   -   7/13/2012)

It all comes to this! Parents do your job...and most of the violence come from alcohol!

RACIAL or NOT!  (by: Not understganding this at all!!  -   7/13/2012)

If this story was reversed it would be "racially motivated" or a "hate crime". Reverse discrimination, perhaps?

As an age-qualified part of this supposed "me" generation, please don't generalize me with these people. Stupidity like this has nothing to do with when you were born and follows all generations to some degree. I think my grandmother said it best. The people you hang out with WILL either bring you up or pull you down to their level. Surround yourself with the type of people you want to be like. Had these young men and women taken heed to that kind of advice, they wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.

feel bad for the parents  (by: Sam Shultz  -   7/12/2012)

These worthless "young adults" have eternally shamed their families, communities and friends. I disagree that this could happen to anyone... there are many young adults out there that are productive and respectfull of themselves and others.
I pray that the Doty family finds solace in knowing the killers of their son will meet justice and hopefully some big, burly cell mates.

good for tought  (by: joe  -   7/12/2012)

Doty  (by: My Oh my  -   7/12/2012)

Those persons who just watched can not be charged for that, good Samaritan law does not apply , failure to act law. Does not apply , only those that had direct or indirect as in clean up , hiding stuff , transporting them things like that.

Sad  (by: Sad  -   7/11/2012)

"concerned Mexican" Thats's the level of ignorance that got all these people into trouble!

(by: what kind of world do we live in??  -   7/11/2012)

Her and the other girl that took the guys out of town should get the same sentence as the murderers!!! Knowing about it and trying to hide them and covering up evidence is just as bad as actually doing the murder

Good job Benton!  (by: foodforthought  -   7/11/2012)

Four more of the "me" generation in jail where they belong. I say, "keep em' coming Sheriff Benton.

Justice is being served  (by: Patti -   -   7/11/2012)

I'm so glad that the on going investigation is making these arrest! I can not imagine how any human could stand by and watch and/or hide these losers that did this horrible crime. Prayers continue for the Doty family and these "stupid" kids will pay their price and their lives are now ruined! which is a real shame!

Stop the Hate  (by: Sue Barhite  -   7/11/2012)

Let Justice prevail. we don't need to promote more violence. I would like to see everyone fighting to save our children. Please, no more deaths, lets fight for them - not with them.

Just the beginning  (by: Matt  -   7/11/2012)

Concerned Mexican...I am with you...of course in our LIBERAL soft country we are living in these days...this thought you have seems crazy and It is obviously far fetched, but the reality is EVERYONE who had an ounce of involvement in this needs to be punished to the fullest. I keep playing the circumstances of this crime back in my head, just picturing this young man sitting there left to die and it really hurts to think that all of these people just let this kid die and furthermore didn't do anything to prevent the savage like beating he had to have taken to be killed. to kill a man with your bear hands essentially is far worse than using any weapon. To think their is so much of this taking place these days in our country... God bless you Aaron...

Stop the Hate  (by: Sue Barhite  -   7/11/2012)

let justice run its course and quit trying to incite more violence.. Is this what we are teaching our children?

eye for eeye  (by: Concerned Mexican  -   7/11/2012)

lets set her on fire too see how she likes it
