Streaks set Brahmans straight
SEBRING - Sebring welcomed back Okeechobee into their gym after a long separation from their previous match up.
And whereas in past it was rare for the Streaks to come out on top, they were able to pull out a win in four over the Brahmans on Thursday night.
The Blue Streaks started the night out right with an ace from Jordan Hinkle jumping out to a 3-2 lead.
A kill by Caylin Webb added another point to the board.
The Brahmans battled back to tie the score at 6, but the Blue Streaks began to pull away. Another Hinkle kill raised the score 10-7.
Soon after a Cadie O'Hern kill tacked on two more points for the Streaks. Sebring went on a short 5-3 run, but was put on pause after Okeechobee called a timeout to settle down.
Another Hinkle ace would keep the run going 19-13.
A solo block and then tip by O'Hern would put the Streaks just one point away from settling the set.
Hannah Tucker followed with a kill to end the score 25-18.
Sebring would start the second set similar to the first with a Webb kill 3-1.
An ace by Samantha Allison would boost the score 6-3 followed by an O'Hern kill to make it 7-4.
Okeechobee took a timeout to shift momentum at 13-8, but there were no stopping the Streaks from scoring.
A Tucker kill would extend the lead to 19-11.
But the Brahmans would pick up the pace and close the gap to three causing Sebring to use a timeout at 20-17.
Consecutive kills by Hannah Gotch then Hinkle would put the score at 22-17, right before Hinkle would end the set with a kill 25-17.
The Lady Streaks would fall in the third set to the Lady Brahmans with a good effort.
Webb had the first kill making the score 3-1, but Okeechobee would slowly pull away forcing Sebring to use both of their timeouts throughout the set, the first at 15-10, then the second at 22-13 with the Streaks trailing during both timeouts.
Sebring fell to the Brahmans 25-13, making the match go to the fourth and final set.
Hinkle would go on a short run for the Streaks as she served an ace to make the score 3-1.
Gotch would contribute to the ace party as she served two herself right after making the score 6-2.
Okeechobee used their first timeout to slow the run.
They were unsuccessful as another ace by Gotch and Tucker kill made the score 13-7, making the Brahmans use their second and final timeout.
This timeout seemed to be more to their advantage as they picked up the pace and slowly crept closer to the Streaks lead.
Okeechobee reached twenty and Sebring called a timeout at 24-20.
The next and final point would be made by a nice defensive joust at the net by O'Hern closing the match 25-20.
"The thing that I want to push with these girls is that they have such great talent, they just need to put it all together," said Sebring head coach Venessa Sinness. "It's the little things, and they know that. It's all mental."
The Streaks return to the court again Tuesday in a district contest against DeSoto at home.
Sebring fell in five to the Lady Bulldogs on the road Thursday, Sept. 5.
