Hobby Campbell is HAL's featured artist for October
Special to the News-Sun
SEBRING - Local artist Hobby Campbell is the featured Artist of the Month for October at the Highlands Art League's Yellow House Gallery and Gift Shop.
The Art League will host its monthly reception from 5-8 p.m. today at the Yellow House Gallery and offers drinks and light snacks, as well as live music by Steven Jones.
Campbell is a native sixth generation Floridian, whose love of the Florida outdoors, the cowboy life, and horses and cattle has been the inspiration for his artwork.
His paintings portray the 'cracker' cowboys and animals as well as Florida's Okeechobee County wildlife; turkeys, boars, deer, and ducks.
He thoroughly enjoys his artwork, and most of his art is created from his memory, not from photos or models.
He has certainly recreated the excitement and dangers of the real cowboy life here in Florida with his artwork. In addition, Campbell will be donating one of his prints for the raffle at the Yellow House this evening.
Dr. Joni Jones will be doing an original tap performance to the "Stray Cat Strut" at around 6 p.m. in the Yellow House.
Downtown Sebring will be in Halloween mode for Destination Downtown; many merchants will be open for Trick-or-Treating, and plans include a Costume Contest on the Circle and Ghost Stories presented by Highlands Little Theater at Sadie Kahn Park.
The Yellow House Gallery and Gift Shop is at 1989 Lakeview Drive. Summer hours extend through October - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. Additional information may also be obtained by calling 385-5312.
