Rodriguez, Felipe indicted for first-degree murder in Doty death

News-Sun staff
SEBRING – Kenneth E. Felipe Jr., 19, and Jonathan R. Rodriguez, 22, will now face first-degree murder charges in the June death of Aaron Doty. First degree murder is a capital felony charge with no bond set.

According to Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton, a grand jury on Thursday indicted Felipe and Rodriguez for the premeditated murder of Doty by “causing trauma to the head and/or by thermal burns.”

The two are also each indicted with kidnapping (facilitate felony), a first degree felony, and tamper/fabricate with physical evidence, a third degree felony. Again, with no bond set.

The report indicates that the capias was served by sheriff’s detectives to the young men inside the Highlands County Jail.
Doty, 20, was allegedly beaten into unconsciousness at a party by Felipe and Rodriguez the morning of June 10. The men then loaded Doty into a truck and took him out to the woods, where Doty was set on fire while still alive.

Doty’s burned body was found in a wooded area in Sun ’N Lake later that day.

Felipe and Rodriguez, who lived at 5504 Granada Blvd. where the fight took place, were arrested June 13 after fleeing to Orlando. They were originally charged with second-degree murder, abuse of a dead human body and tampering with physical evidence.

In the hands of the justice system  (by: CC  -   10/16/2012)

Yes, our hearts fill with rage by what has happened. There will never be an excuse, or anything that will make us understand why this has happened. We have a justice system in place to bring criminals before an earthly judge. Unfortunately, crimes like this do occur in other places, and those monsters have to stand trial as well. The justice system was put into place for a reason, and we must abide by it. Order has to be kept, otherwise, there would be a free-for-all. I know an angry mob of friends and loved ones bringing justice for Aaron seems like the right way, but we have to allow the system to work. No one wants their tax money to pay for them, but this is the way it works. Please remember that the family also reads these comments, and from I've understood, they do not condone the hatred. Their faith in God is strong, but these are very trying times for them. Do not allow hatred to fill your heart. This horrible tragedy should bring you all together closer as a community and family. Pray for strength and courage for not only the Doty family, but for yourselves. Create something positive in Aaron's name, a memorial foundation of some type. Do something that helps bring your community closer. Take your anger and rage and turn it into something positive. Justice will be served the right way on earth, and then they will have to stand before the ultimate judge in the end.

Law Makers   (by: So SAD!  -   10/15/2012)

Emotions  (by: Emotional   -   10/15/2012)

All that were there....you can now remember for the rest of your lives that Aaron was beat unconscious but unconscious people can hear what is going on around them. Check the internet.... they can hear! He could hear everything until the moment he left this world. Someone on here said something about beating them and burning them... don't worry, they WILL burn FOREVER...for the Bible tells ME so. By the way, first degree are the best words I have heard since the arrests! Thanks HCSO for such a great job in helping to reach this charge!!!! Pure evil!

The on looker are just as guilty as the murders. They should be sent to the ig prison and see just how the abuse feels when your still alive and someone does horrible things to you. all of them even the girls should go to prison for accessory to murder, I have no compasion for people like that

Justice for Aaron  (by: Barbara Jean  -   10/13/2012)

Everyone that was at the party should be punished as well. I find it hard to believe that no one stepped in to stop this. My prayers are with Aaron's family. I can't even imagine how this family is functioning since this happened. My heart aches for the family.

DOTY  (by: Oh Boy  -   10/12/2012)

To Knysna, there are no laws on the books to punish them under thats why they have not been arrested.

relief  (by: knysna  -   10/12/2012)

There should be punishment for those who watched and did not do anything. Why should they be set free? They all carry up to date cell phones and did not use them.

Justce  (by: SunNLaker  -   10/12/2012)

Great.
Five years of trial proceedings.
Fifteen years on Death Row (if we're lucky) only to be reduced to life sentences.
Just release them now in the Walmart parking lot at a published date and time. We'll be there...

Save our tax dollars---Hit them in the head with a sledge hammer and set them on fire on the 1 year anniversary of Aaron's brutal murder.

Society does not need these kind of people.

Murderers,Felipe and Rodriquez  (by: Lisa Schuler  -   10/12/2012)

This is great news for all whose lives were changed in so many ways, suddenly, forever. However,I do not feel that my tax dollars should have to feed and house these two animals. I would much rather see it spent on two lethal injections, just to be kind. By the way, there is a typo where Aaron's last name was misspelled, paragraph two.
