published: Thursday, November 01, 2012 Man arrested after breaking into occupied home Special to the News-Sun SEBRING - Highlands County Sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary of an occupied home call at approximately 8:30 a.m. Thursday at 2606 Thunderbird Road in Sebring. Arriving on the scene deputies removed both victims from the home without injury. Deputies attempted to have the suspect come out of the house, but he did not comply with their verbal commands, therefore they set up a perimeter and waited for backup. K-9 Deputy Tom Fort arrived with his K-9 partner, Cain, and with other deputies. When the suspect still refused to exit, they entered the home in an attempt to take the suspect into custody. With assistance from Cain, suspect, Daniel Paul Boucher, 27, of 4408 Rachael Drive in Sebring, was arrested and charged with unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling, obstruction of justice with violence and criminal mischief. Boucher was taken to a local medical facility for treatment of his encounter with Cain and will be booked into the Highlands County Jail on the above charges. "The coordination with our K-9 Teams is essential during in progress calls such as this case," Sheriff Susan Benton said. "The K-9 plays a specific role, not only catching the bad guys but keeping deputies from having to go hands on with an unwilling suspect." Anyone with further information on this case is requested to contact the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit and Det. Nathan Coogan at 402-7341 or 402-7250.
