Man charged with robbery

A Sebring man is facing robbery charges after allegedly attacking and robbing an acquaintence on Thursday.

According to the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, Vincent Bryson contacted Central Dispatch at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, indicating he had been robbed. Deputies proceeded to Hub Cycle and Auto Sales, 2460 S.R. 17 South in Avon Park, where Bryson said he was doing an estimate for construction work at a residence on S.R. 17S when he was confronted by a subject he knew, Christopher Michael Brown, 33.

As Bryson was leaving the residence, Brown reportely approached him and began hitting him in the head with closed fists that were equipped with brass knuckles. After several strikes, Brown allegedly retrieved a rifle from a nearby vehicle, pointed the gun at Bryson and ordered him to give up some personal property and cash. Bryson complied with the request, at which time Brown ordered Bryson to leave the area. Bryson then went to Hub Cycle and called 911. He suffered non-life threatening injuries in the encounter.

As the investigation continued, Det. Hank Smith, assisted by Detectives Abell, Coogan, VanFleet, Huften and Neale converged on various addresses in collateral investigative leads. Ultimately, contact was made with Brown at 2451 Lake Lillian Drive in Avon Park where Capt. Randy LaBelle, patrol deputies and K-9 units took Brown into custody. Brown, of 3327 Green Acre Way, Sebring, was charged with robbery with a firearm. He is in the Highlands County Jail with no bond.
