click any photo to view this story's photo gallery ![]() published: Friday, September 03, 2010 Sebring Youth Football sees winning weekend Special to the News-Sun On Saturday, Aug. 28 was game number two for the SYF association. The Sebring Thunderbolts played at home this weekend at the Highlands County Sports Complex against the Hardee Wildcats. Hardee joined the Mid-Florida Football and Cheer Conference earlier this season and brought quite a crowd with them for a great day of football. Games started off at 9 a.m. with the Flag game, ages 5-6 years old, with the Sebring Thunderbolts, coached by Kirby Whitehouse, rolling over the Hardee Wildcats for a 24-12 win. The second game of the day was played by the Mitey-Mites, ages 7-8 years old, coached by Chris Hawthorne; the Thunderbolts put up a good fight but ended up with Hardee winning 20-6. The third game of the day was played by the Pee Wee division, ages 9-10 year olds, coached by Tim Hooks was an exciting game with a close score during most of the game which ended in a bittersweet loss to the Wildcats with a score of 12-8. The final game of the day was played by the Junior division, ages 11-12 years, coached by Cliff Howell was an awesome game with quarterback Brian Lane # 44 leading his offense down the field with the aid of Donte Carpenter # 29 ran the ball up the middle of the field gaining several yards and one touchdown in the opening drive of the game. Akem JnPierre # 55 played exceptional defense making several key tackles during the game, Cole Kilgo # 28 made an 80-yard return on a kickoff and an interception and AJ Robinson # 12 running the ball for several yards and making the winning touchdown wrapping up the game with a 12-6 win for the Thunderbolts. The Sebring Blue Streaks were on the road this week to play the Mulberry Panthers. Games started off at 9 a.m. with the Flag game, coached by Chris King, taking full control of the game and rolling over the Panthers with a 29-0 win. The second game was played by the Mitey-Mites, coached by Carlos Cardoso, was a hard fought tight game with Sebring pulling it out victorious with a 7-0 win. The third game was played by Senior division, ages 13-14, coached by Bronson Smith, which was a good competitive game with the Blue Streaks coming out on top with a win for a final score of 26-14. The fourth game was played the Pee Wee division, coached by David Jones, was a hard fought game which ended in a tough loss to the Panthers with a score of 18-12. The final game of the day was played by the Junior division, coached by Bob Duncan which was a great game. The Streaks dominated the field and defeated the Panthers in a 28-0 game. Games for Saturday, Sept. 4 have the Blue Streaks playing the Manatee Bulls at home and the Thunderbolts will be playing the Bartow Yellow Jackets away.
