Bikers ready for Lake Placid Food, Toy Run on Dec. 12

Special to the News-Sun

LAKE PLACID - The 10th annual Lake Placid Food and Toy Run is set for Dec. 12, starting from the First Christian Church parking lot behind the Avon Park McDonald's at 11 a.m. Motorcyclists will ride to Lake Placid's Action Revival Family Worship Center to distribute food and toys. There will be door prizes, food and refreshments provided.

This toy run was started by Tony Ballard of Avon Park in December 2000 with less than a dozen bikers. It has grown each year due to all of the support of not only the local biker community, but also from those that travel many miles out of the area to attend. Turn out has exceeded 200 participants.

This toy run is unique because it is not sponsored by any club or organization. It's just bikers coming together to do what we do best, help children and those in need.

This event is not only for motorcyclists of all types; anyone is welcome to attend, including "caravans" of people. To have a good time, enjoy some good food and help some children, come along for the ride. For information or to make a donation, call Ballard at 452-8570.
