LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce has decided to add a little more cheer to the holiday season in their community.
The chamber has put together a holiday contest that has already taken the downtown area to new holiday height and brought more merriness to the area.
Chamber CEO/President Eileen May was excited to reveal the details of the inaugural Christmas Window Decoration Contest.
"We have invited all of the merchants in the town to participate. What they do is decorate the front window or the side of the building for Christmas, however they want. On Saturday we are going to have judges go through and decide what stores are the winners," May said.
The first year theme of the decoration contest is "Holiday Happiness". The idea behind the whole event is to promote the town of Lake Placid and local holiday shopping.
Currently, May has already registered 12 merchants who are busy decorating their windows to show their holiday and Christmas spirits.
"We just decided that it'd be a nice little thing to have going on here. We wanted to give everyone just a kind of pop during the season, and it's working. Everyone has been working on their windows and it's exciting," May said.
The participants are all up for some extra holiday cash as well once they become a part of the chamber Christmas Window Decoration Contest. First-place winner will receive $100 donated by Michael Noel of Thrivent Financial. The second-place winner will receive $50 donated by Ken LeBlanc of The Lake Placid Cottage Company and third-place winner will receive $25 donated by the Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber is still accepting merchant entries and both businesses and individuals are allowed to team up for the displays in store fronts. The judging will take place just before the Lake Placid Christmas Parade on Saturday.
