GEORGE DAVENPORT, JR.
George Davenport Jr., of Avon Park, Fla., died Jan. 23, 2013, in Knoxville, Tenn. He was born in Plymouth, Ind., on Feb. 5, 1935. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Berger) Davenport of Knoxville, Tenn. Liz was George's best friend and devoted companion during the last several years of his life.
As the owner of LaPaz Grain Company in LaPaz, Ind., George was a well-known businessman and friend to all. He never met a stranger, loved a good story, and freely offered advice and encouragement to all he encountered. He enjoyed the game of golf, and treasured many seasons of cheering on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
George was preceded in death by wife, Paula (Smith) Davenport, and is survived by his children, Rick Davenport and wife Micky of Plymouth, Ind.; Jodi Sportsman and husband Michael, of Overland Park, Kansas; and Kim Horvath of Concord, N.C. He leaves behind three adoring grandchildren, Andy Graverson and wife Lacey of Liberty, Mo.; Abby Dugan and husband Sean of Overland Park, Kansas; and Kameron Horvath of Concord, N.C. Great grandsons Brady Dugan and Ryker Graverson will carry on his legacy.
There will be a memorial service held for George in Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. An additional memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date in Avon Park, his final resting place.
