LAKE PLACID - Donna Spaniola, a Michigan resident who winters in Okeechobee, is February's Artist/Crafter of the Month at the Caladium Arts & Crafts Cooperative.
For the past 10 years, she has made magnetic bookmarks, greeting cards and jewelry, most often using Swarovski crystals.
Spaniola has been doing crafts since she was in her teens. She started with felt ornaments, tree skirts, dough ornaments, counted cross stitch, etc. "One craft led to another," she said.
She is also an award-winning jewelry maker. In 2004, a necklace she made using Picture Jasper Stones won first place at a jewelry store (Miners Den) in Royal Oak, Mich.
She enjoys taking beading classes to learn new designs.
