Friends will give afghan during National Library Week

Special to the News-Sun

LAKE PLACID -- Friends of the Lake Placid Memorial Library have received a donation of a soft, warm afghan from the Lake Placid Crochet Circle. That colorfully designed, hand-crocheted afghan will be awarded to someone in a drawing Tuesday, April 16, during National Library Week (April 14-20).

The afghan measures approximately 5-by-8 feet and required more than 500 hours to complete. Members of the Crochet Circle, who worked on the afghan, are beginner to expert levels. They are Maria and Norma Gonzalez, Holly Orozco, Heidi Barrera, Pat Gutierrez, Andrea Connolly and JoAnn Edson.

The Circle meets at 4:30 p.m. in the library on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Tickets for the drawing may be obtained from volunteers at the Lake Placid Memorial Library for $1 or six for $5 and will be available until April 16.

Funds collected by the Friends, who are all volunteers, are put directly back into the needs of the library. Recently, the Friends have been able to provide the library with needed furniture, new best-seller books, DVDs and computers through the generosity of the Lake Placid community.
