Winn Dixie Foundation invests $4,500 in Heartland Rural Health Network

AVON PARK - Heartland Rural Health Network, Inc. has received a $4,500 grant from the Winn-Dixie Foundation to help support their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Outreach Program. The purpose of this outreach program is to assist low income individuals apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, more commonly known as food stamps.

The most common factor of needing assistance is the difficulty and confusion with the online application process. HRHN employs a SNAP specialist who is available part time to assist individuals through the application process and teach them how to utilize the online application and steps required for recertification.

"Winn Dixie is not only committed to serving our communities as a business and employer, but to do our part to make our communities stronger," said Mary Kellmanson, marketing senior vice-president of Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., and president of the Winn-Dixie Foundation. "We are thrilled that the Winn-Dixie Foundation values our local community based program and are committed to helping us continue serving our community by providing an award to our organization," stated Kelly J. Johnson, HRHN's executive director.

Last year, the Winn-Dixie Foundation helped fund 112 programs that brighten the lives of people who need a helping hand. Neighborhoods in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi benefited from efforts that are locally based and targeted to local needs.
