Special to the News-Sun
SEBRING - Lotela Gold will bring back a blast from the past as they hit the stage for a special '50s and '60s musical show open to the public from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, April 5 at Highlands Inn.
This nine-piece show band is based out of Avon Park and began performing together in the fall of 2011. Although recently formed, the members of the band bring years of experience in the entertainment industry by performing either gospel and/or rock 'n' roll music. The group has played at concerts, private parties and dances in central and western Florida. They just finished performing at the Highlands County Fair.
Several members of the band decided the name Lotela Gold was appropriate for this group since they practice near Lake Lotela in Avon Park and they perform gold cover songs.
Lotela Gold focuses on the great songs that here hits from the 1950s and early 1960s. The band emphasizes its superb vocal harmonies and seven of the nine members are featured vocalists at various times during the show. They bring back the sweet memories of the past by singing songs to pay tribute to Elvis, Sam Cooke, Buddy Holly and Ricky Nelson. Costume changes throughout their show keep the audience entertained.
In addition to vocalists, the group features musicians who play guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and a variety of percussion instruments.
There will be plenty of room for dancing in the banquet hall at the Highlands Inn that can seat up to 300 people. The décor will be set up in the '50s theme so dig out that poodle skirt, leather jacket and bobbie socks to feel a part of the show.
Tickets will be sold in the lounge in advance for $10 for show only and $15 at the door. They must be purchased by April 4. There is also a dinner and show ticket for $18 that needs to be purchased in advance to guarantee seating. Call 446-0824 to make a dinner reservation at Classic Buffet in the Highlands Inn or stop by the Highlands Inn Lounge to purchase tickets any time after 4 p.m. Highlands Inn is at 6525 U.S. 27 North, in front of Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center.
