SEBRING - The Highlands County Sheriff's Office is requesting assistance from the public in attempt to identify the subject suspected in stealing mail and checks. On Sept. 13, 2012, sheriff's deputies responded to Glisson Animal Supply, 4545 US 27 South, on a complaint of stolen mail.
Within the mail that was stolen were two checks made out to Glisson's, which were subsequently altered and cashed at two different banks in the Pensacola area. The investigation is continuing to determine if additional checks may have been included in the stolen mail, but to date the Sheriff's Office is only aware of these two that have been cashed.
A surveillance camera at one of the Pensacola banks photographed a subject cashing one of the altered checks. The Highlands County Sheriff's Office would like to contact this person in hopes he may be able to provide additional information on the stolen mail.
Anyone who may know the individual in the photos is requested to contact the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit at 402-7250 and speak with Sergeant Mike Delaney. Anyone who wants to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS(8477), or contact the agency via the Internet at www.heartlandcrimestoppers.com. Anonymity is guaranteed.
