LAKE PLACID -- "I always knew that I would paint someday. Painting is something that I put on hold while I raised my three boys and pursued a career in Occupational Therapy. Over the years I channeled my creative energy into decorating and landscape design," said Dorothy Bade, this month's Artist of the Month at the Lake Placid Caladium Cooperative.
Bade stepped down from a corporate Occupational Therapy position in 2010 to work close to home in Lake Placid with reduced work hours, and time to pursue her dream.
She met Jeni Novak, watercolorist and artist at the 2010 Caladium Festival.
"I was inspired by her art work and signed up for art classes. This was the beginning of my journey into the field of fine art," Bade said.
She continues to study and has won several awards including the People's Choice Award for the Caladium Festival Poster contest this year.
She is now actively involved with the local art community maintaining membership in the Heartland Cultural Alliance, the Caladium Arts and Crafts Cooperative and Lake Placid Art League, as first vice-president, in charge of programming.
