New art gallery opens on Ridgewood Drive

Special to the News-Sun

SEBRING - The movement to make Highlands County an art and cultural destination just took another jump forward. Local artist Joseph Anthony has signed a lease for a 750-foot storefront at 131 N. Ridgewood Drive. On Friday, Anthony will open a co-op gallery featuring contemporary art at the downtown location.

Anthony owned galleries in Los Angeles and will use that experience to add a new dimension to the growing local art scene.

The gallery opening will feature the art of James Ward, Joseph Anthony, David Powers, Bill Dailey and Fred Leavitt. This combination of artists displayed work together for the Spill Your Heart Out themed art show on the Gulf oil spill in 2010. This landmark show drew large crowds, and Highlands County art teachers brought their classes to the pop-up HCA gallery in Sebring to see the exhibit in the weeks after its opening.
