LAKE PLACID - Local artist Jean Gragert is the winner of this year's competion for the poster and T-shirt for the Caladium Festival to be held the last full weekend in August 2010. It is Gragert's first entry for this contest, having never tried to paint caladiums before.
There were a variety of caladiums in her rendition including White Queen, Pink Beauty, Carolyn Wooton, and Aaron.
The posters and T-shirts will be available next August at the Caladium Festival and at the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce.
Another local artist, Joan Pizzi, was a double winner. Her painting, which included a fence with caladiums and daisies, won the People's Choice Award. She also won first place in the Oil and Acrylics category.
The work of these artists is on display at the Highlands Independent Bank in Lake Placid.
Other winners in the Oil and Acrylic category were: second place, Carol Mills; third place, Marion Murphy; and honorable mention, Ruby Dutton.
Winners in the Watercolor and Pastel competition were: first place, Pat Kessling; second place, Linda Schneider; third place, Joni Warner; and honorable mention, all entries from persons at ARK
The winners in the genre of Mixed Media were: first place, Allen McPherson; second place, Linda Carr; third place, Brian Carr; and honorable mention, Margie Callas
The winners in the Photography competition were: first place, Joyce Gordon; second place, Jackie Hartzell; third place, Donna Mancinelli; and honorable mention, Neal Wiseman.
