Special to the News-Sun

AVON PARK -- A Veterans Day remembrance ceremony to honor all military veterans will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the flagpole on the South Florida Community College Highlands Campus.

The public is invited to attend.

The program will include guest speakers Col. (Ret.) William E. Hutchison, U.S. Air Force, and Troy Glenn, OS2(SW), U.S. Navy. The Avon Park High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC) Color Guard, Knights of Columbus, Our Lady Queen of the Universe Assembly, SFCC Basic Corrections Academy Class 2009-173, and the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club-Sebring Chapter will also be present during the ceremony.

The program will conclude with a Remembrance Walk along the SFCC campus.

"Freedom isn't free, and we owe a large debt of gratitude to our military veterans," said Erik Christensen, chair, SFCC Natural Sciences, and a retired U.S. Navy commander.

"This inaugural SFCC veterans remembrance ceremony offers the opportunity to take a short pause in our busy lives and reflect upon the sacrifices that military veterans have endured to ensure the freedoms we now richly enjoy.

"Although we want to salute all military veterans who have served our great nation, this ceremony also gives us a chance to salute those veterans who now continue to serve our community as members of the SFCC family."
