New York Tenors bringing sounds of the season to SFSC Theatre Dec. 10

Special to the News-Sun

AVON PARK -- The South Florida State College 2012-13 Artist Series celebrates the holiday season with the New York Tenors at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, in the SFSC Theatre for the Performing Arts. The amazing voices of Andy Cooney, Michael Amante, and Daniel Rodriguez will ring together in their program "Christmas."

Andy Cooney is a local favorite. He's performed previously at SFSC in the Artist Series with American Voices and in the Matinee Series with Forever Irish. Cooney has taken the Irish American scene by storm for the last 20 years and has been called "Irish America's favorite son" by the New York Times. His unique tenor voice has been heard in concert halls internationally, including two sold out performances in New York's Carnegie Hall.

Michael Amante, affectionately known as "The People's Tenor," is a combination of all-American looks, romantic Italian charm, and an incredible voice. Legendary performer Tony Bennett is quoted saying, "Michael's remarkable range of notes and his ability to sing everything from opera to Broadway to contemporary gives this tenor an intimate connection with anyone who hears him."

Daniel Rodriguez, "America's Beloved Tenor," came to light during one of the darkest times of our nation's history. He was the New York City police officer whose amazing voice comforted a grieving nation in the days following Sept. 11. He continues to inspire, stir, and embrace his listeners through his recordings and memorable live concert performances.

The New York Tenors combine the artistry of three men who alone are superb, but together provide an overwhelming, can't-miss showcase of some of the world's greatest vocalists and repertoire. In fact, the New York Tenors will follow up their SFSC performance with a performance at Carnegie Hall.

The performance is sponsored by Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center, Highlands Today, Heartland National Bank, and JD Financial Solutions and Insurance Group, Inc.

Individual tickets for the New York Tenors range in price from $31 to $38. They are available for purchase online at www.performances.southflorida.edu or at the SFSC Box Office, 863-784-7178. SFSC Box Office hours are Monday-Friday, 11:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. and is located in the front of the SFSC Theatre for the Performing Arts, 600 West College Drive, Avon Park.
