SEBRING -- After 25 years the building that houses Habitat for Humanity's Re-Store needs a new roof and fire sprinkler system to be safe.

Sarah Pallone, director of development for Habitat, said because of pressing deadline, Habitat went ahead with the work.

"The challenge now is to replenish the funding used to pay for that work," Pallone said.

Enter Bernie Preblick, an artist and member of the Highlands Art League. He put together a 2012 calendar featuring local artists to raise funds for it.

Thinking about putting out a similar calendar for 2013, Preblick said, "As wonderful as the Art League is, there are more important things. I spoke to Sarah about dedicating the calendar to Habitat and giving them 50 percent of the net proceedings. She was excited and we went ahead."

Like last year it features the work of local artists, so it also helps to promote their art.

"It's really beautiful," Pallone said.

Called "Art in the Heartland", the full-sized wall calendar is available in nine Sebring stores. It costs $6. "The retail value of a comparable one costs $17 to $19," Preblick said. "They make an ideal holiday gift and benefit a worthy cause."

The calendars can be purchased at the following sites: Habitat for Humanity on North Ridgewood Drive; Frames and Images on the Circle; both Sebring Chamber of Commerce offices, on the Circle and in the Fountain Plaza on U.S. 27; Alligator Antiques at U.S. 27 and Lakeview Drive; Linda's Books at Ridgewood Drive North; The Mermaid's Castle, also on Ridgewood Drive North; Kathy's Consignment Boutique at South Commerce Avenue near the fairgrounds; Blinds ASAP at Fountain Plaza on U.S. 27 or online at www.preblickpublishing.com
