AVON PARK -- Councilor Paul Miller attended his last meeting as an elected official Monday night -- that is, unless he decides to run for office again.
At 7 a.m. Jan. 2, Garrett Anderson will be swore into office, taking Miller's seat.
"I enjoyed doing this very much," Miller said, accepting a plaque in recognition for his service.
"I'd like to see more people come out to meetings. We've got a crowd tonight, so something must be up. We've got a city to run, come out and give your opinion. Make it run the way you want it to run, the way it should be run."
Miller made it clear he intends to remain active as a volunteer and serve where needed on advisory boards.
In other business, the council approved a $2.2 million loan and $1.7 million principal forgiveness grant to provide 11.5 miles of drinking water mains to Lake Lotela and the Avon Park Lakes service areas.
It also approved, on final reading, annexation contracts with Avon Gardens, Crewes Groves, Lake Ridge Groves and B. Hill Griffin, for 275 acres, or 0.43 square miles. "The new parkway and city water will make the development of this property a reality," City Manager Julian Deleon said of when the annexation takes place in the future.
