Lady Streaks have rough opener

News-Sun staff report

LAKE WALES - The Lady Blue Streaks got a rude welcome to District 5-5A Tuesday as they fell in the season opener, 54-21, to the Lady Highlanders.

"Lake Wales has a very good team," head coach Mike Lee said. "They have depth at all positions and can shoot the ball. We did not defend or rebound well, which are two things we've got to do to be competitive in this district."

Shannon Williams filled up the stat sheet for Sebring with a team leading six points to go with nine rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

Madison Rose and Zykeria Dawkins each scored four and Shwonda Holdmann pulled down seven rebounds.

"It is not the way we wanted to start our season, but it is only the first game of many left to come," Lee said. "We had a great practice (Wednesday) and I expect we will play much better as the season unfolds."

Next up for the Blue Streaks was a home contest Thursday night with Hardee before traveling to Frostproof and Liberty Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
