SEBRING - All goods things eventually come to an end.

Unfortunately for the Sebring boys soccer team, their season drew to a close on Wednesday night as they took on the Merritt Island Mustangs in the first round of State Regionals.

The Streaks were unable to get on the board with a score, but still managed to rein in the Mustang offense enough to finish with a 3-0 loss.

"The game was a tough one," said junior Neil Wilson. "A little like our last game against Auburndale."

Last Friday, the Streaks took on Auburndale in the district championship.

Due to a narrow loss of 2-0 against one of their rivals, the Streaks became District 13-3A runner up and advanced to regionals to take on the District 14-3A champions, Merritt Island.

Advancing to the next bracket of regionals is now Merritt Island and Auburndale after the Bloodhounds lit up Lake Nona by a 6-1 margin.

"I think it's going to be a great match between the two," said Wilson. "If Merritt Island crosses to the center and controls the midfield, they have a good chance of winning."

For now, however, the Streaks can only watch from the sidelines as their two rivals compete further into the State Tournament.

"I'm really proud of the seniors," said junior Austin Westergom. "They were really the heart of the team and they will be missed."

"We're going to be rebuilding next season."

As unfortunate as it is that things must end, the successes and experiences gained along the way should lead to promise and hope for the upcoming season for Sebring soccer.
