Cubs take two in Senior 60s

SEBRING - Wednesday, Jan. 30, action in the Sebring 60s Senior Softball League saw the first place VFW4300 Cubs upending the Fairmount Angels 20-3.

The Cubs defense turned four double plays to make it a total of seven in their last two games.

Doing the heavy hitting for the Cubs was Jesse Hathaway with four hits.

Todd Martin, Roger Gasperlin, Don Dobbert (1 double) and Boom Boom Buja (1 triple) all had three hits each.

Winning pitcher was John Kloet with Dan Webb getting the save.

Fairmount stars were John Miller (double) and Bill Todd, with two hits each.

The other game had the second-place Independent WhiteSox beating the Alan -Jay Red Sox 11-3.

Leading the way for the White Sox where Bob Roth and Tom McNally with four hits each.

Gary Steeves added three hits while Moe Pier and Craig Sutliff chipped in with two hits each.

The losing Red Sox had JR Reed with three hits, Frank Lantz and Bill Allicot came up with two hits each.

Monday, Jan. 28, scores had the Fairmount Angels edging Alan-Jay's Red Sox with five runs in their last at bat, 12-11.

Batting stars for the Angels were Gallo Gonzalez with the game winning hit, John Miller (double), JC Brown (double), all with three hits.

Scoring for Alan-Jay were Dick Schultz, Frank Lantz, Bill Allicot and Fred Richardson all witrh three hits each.

The other game had the VFW4300 Cubs outscoring the Independent White Sox 19-12 for first place.

VFW 4300 was lead by Todd Martin and Don Dobbert with four hits each.

Bill Scrase had a career day with three hits and two home runs.

John "Boom-Boom" Buja and Ray Trudell also had three hits each.

Dan Webb got the win on the mound while John Kloet got the save.

The games will continue at Highland Sports complex for the 60s next Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 4 and 6, at 10 a.m.

Admisson is free so come out and support Sebring Senior 60s Softball.
