LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Aquatics hosted the final local swim meet of the summer at the Lake Placid High School Pool on Saturday, July 14.
The three teams involved were the Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team (HHST), Lake Placid Aquatics (LPA), and the Hardee Swim Association (HSA).
There were 115 swimmers competing in the meet, with ages ranging from 5- to 19-years old.
The Highlands Hurricanes won the girls and boys portion of the competition and the overall team title.
The Lake Placid Aquatic boys team placed second and the girls placed third.
The final team scores were Hurricanes 1011, Hardee 844 and Lake Placid 810.
Five Hurricane swimmers won each of the events into which they were entered, including Andrew Brown in the 13-14 Boys, where he won the 50 and 100 Free, the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley.
Griffin Chynoweth, swimming in the 11-12 Boys, won the 50 and 100 Free, the 50 Breaststroke and 100 IM, while Shannon Cummings won the Senior Girls 50 Free, 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke and 200 IM.
Anna Sapp won four events in the 9-10 Girls, touching in first in the 50 and 100 Free, 50 Fly and 100 IM, with 8-year old Madeline Swaine winning the 25 and 50 Free, the 25 Breaststroke and 100 IM.
A pair of LPA swimmers also swept the events they were in as Brice Creel, in the 11-12 Girls, won the 25, 50 and 100 Free, along with the 100 IM, and Braden Million, in the Boys 6-and-under, won the 25 Free, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke.
Getting the top overall point totals for their respective age groups for the Hurricanes were Swaine, Sapp, Chynowith, Clara Simpson, who tied with LPAs Katie Dye in the 13-14 Girls, Brown, Cummings and Brian Miller.
LPA swimmers winning their age group overall were Ashby Edgemon, 6-and-under Girls, Million, Tyler Baker in 8-and-under Boys, Peyton Ming in 9-10 Boys, Creel and Dye.
The Hurricane relay team of Annie Weber-Callahan, Kate Bryan, Mikaela Talley and Cummings won the Senior Girls 200 Freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.87, while Bryan, Weber-Callahan, Cummings and Meghan Knowles won and the Senior Girls 200 Medley relay with a time of 2:17.45.
Steven New, Brian Ortiz, Miller and Brown won the Senior Boys 200 Freestyle relay for the Highlands team, with a time of 1:36.74.
The same group of boys teamed to win the Senior Boys 200 Medley relay with a time of 1:51.15.
Next on the Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team schedule are the Florida Age Group Championships, July 19 - 22, in Gainesville, for Andrew Brown and Griffin Chynoweth.
Brown will be competing in six events in the 13-14-year old age group - the 50- and 100-meter freestyles, the 100- and 200-meter breaststrokes, and the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes.
Chynowith will competing in the 11-12-year old age group's 50-meter breaststroke.
The rest of the team will be competing at the Area 3/5 Championship swim meet July 27-29 in St. Petersburg.
