"I'm so proud of my team," said Sebring girls soccer senior Destiny McCartney.
Proud she should be, as the Streaks won their first match at Monday night's District 13-3A Tournament opener against Auburndale with a 2-1 overtime victory.
This is quite a feat for the Sebring girls, as Auburndale was last year's district champions and had topped the Streaks 3-0 in their most recent meeting.
The scores for the night came from Haylee Peters and Julia Van Fleet, while Shannon Bloemsma garnered 18 saves over 87 minutes to keep her team in the contest.
"The seniors have been waiting four years for this," said McCartney. "When we started on varsity our freshman year, the coaches said we would do some good our senior year."
The Streaks were hopeful to continue this momentum through their next game, though it would be a tough challenge.
Sebring was set to take on tournament host and this year's top-seed Winter Haven, who also beat the Streaks 3-0 in their last meeting, Tuesday night.
