Well, here it is, the last editorial of 2012. Good riddance to the year and humbug.
The wonderful thing about time, however, is that it always moves on.
Welcome 2013 -- a fresh page on the calendar; another beginning.
We have a wish list of things we'd love to see happen in the next 12 months.
We certainly hope for a lot.
In 2013 we want to see Sebring's City Pier Beach dredge hole filled; a sensible approach to animal control initiated throughout the county; and Avon Park complete its new city charter. We want Lake Placid to stay on track in its discussion of replacing a town clerk with an administrator; we want to see single stream recycling throughout the county; and more bank robbers caught.
We hope the Heartland Food Reservoir continues to grow, but the need dwindle. We hope the community's volunteer spirit does not fade; and children keep riding their bicycles safely on neighborhood streets.
We hope the Sheriff and the Supervisor of Elections get their much needed new space, and the library system recognized as essential to our quality of life.
There are things the News-Sun promises to do in 2013.
We will find out what happened to Nicholas Stephen Fox, the driver who allegedly lost control of his car on U. S. 27 last March while under the influence, killing Peggy Sue Roaf. We will follow the civil suit between former Avon Park police chief Michael Rowan and the city; as well as the Aaron Doty case and the Jeff Carlson case; and we'll keep track of the county/Swamp Hammock dispute.
There are things we wish for that are pie-in-the-sky pipe dreams, although still irresistible.
As of Dec. 30, with her wall still intact, we hope good sense prevails and Ginger Mitchelllindo keeps her wall in 2013.
We hope someone comes along with a great idea for Harder Hall and has the money to make it happen.
We hope Lake Placid leaders are inspired to find a public/private way of bringing the Tower back to life. (Kevin Roberts, CEO of the Champion for Children Foundation can give you advice).
Finally, we say a small prayer for the future: We pray our elected officials trust us enough to tell us the truth. We pray the rest of us live up to that trust.
