School zone needed in front of school

Editor:

I am concerned that no one has done anything about there not being a school zone speed limit in front of Fred Wild Elementary. Ever since the road has been widened, the school zone signs have not been replaced. You have a speed limit of 45 mph in front of the school and do not start the school zone until you are closer to the high school.

It can not be said that because there is a fence around the school that there is not a need for the zone. The high school has a fence around two sides that has zones. Also, if you travel past the high school on Kenilworth Boulevard, you come to a school zone and don't even see a school.

My only thought can be, "our elementary kids are smarter than the high schoolers and stay off the streets more". I don't think this is the case.

There are plenty of children who walk that sidewalk every morning and afternoon with cars going 45 mph. Why isn't there a speed zone there? It doen't make sense to me at all.

There should be a school zone from Youth Care Lane to the red light at Commerce Avenue. That covers both schools, not just the high school.
