As a nearly 30-year resident of Highlands County, I cannot remember having an art and culture exhibit of such esteem in our area as the Smithsonian Institution's Journey Stories exhibit that is on display at Highlands Museum of the Arts (MOTA) in Downtown Sebring now through Jan. 19. Given our rural area, this may be a once in a lifetime experience for some people in our county.
I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to see this free exhibit, for visitors of all ages, that that uses images, audio and artifacts to illustrate the critical roles that traveling and movement have played in building our diverse American society.
We always tend to focus on our future and where we are going, but sometimes it is important to remember our past, where we came from and how we got there.
