It's not the tool to consider, but the reason

Editor:

I have been reading all the politicians and media peoples belittling remarks about putting armed guards at schools as proposed by an NRA executive.

Then I consider the make up of Congress. Ninety percent of our politicians are lawyers. Lawyers are fairly well educated people. They reflect on the the condition of our country today. That ought to tell you something.

If armed protection at schools isn't the answer, then why did Congress put armed guards on commercial airplanes and why does Congress have armed guards at their place of work - the Capitol?

Politicians carry on about the killing of children at a school by a gunman. Yet at the same time, they, Congress, have passed laws that let people kill over a million babies a year in this country by abortion. You talk about hypocrites.

Politicians pontificate about guns killing people. Did they or anybody ever see a gun walking down the street shooting people to death, or a kitchen knife jumping up and stabbing a person to death, or a baseball bat swinging away battering a person to death? They don't get it, that "people kill people". So much for being intelligent.

In my opinion, why people do these things is the major problem to be considered, rather than firearms or garden and kitchen tools. If a family is unfortunately saddled with a problem child, medical and psychiatric help should be provided to them for the asking. It is a difficult situation for a family to admit that they have such a problem.

Maybe, on the other hand, it is our fault for letting our children, at early ages, be pumped full of "psycho" drugs, when they are slow learners at school or restless, nasty and hateful. Rather than giving them time to grow out of these conditions before giving them these powerful altering drugs.
