Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast is Saturday

SEBRING - Boy Scout Troop 827 will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Tickets are $5 each if bought in advance and $7 if purchased at the door.

This is a fundraiser to help each member of the troop attend Boy Scout Camp. The public is encouraged to attend. The church address is 3235 Grand Prix Drive.

Highlands Gator Club offering scholarship

AVON PARK -- The Highlands Gator Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to qualified Highlands County students who plan to attend the University of Florida for the first time. Applications are available in the counseling office at the high schools and the financial aid office at South Florida State College (formerly South Florida Community College) and must be turned in by Friday, April 12.

Scholarships will be awarded in May.

Dance Club hosts The Golden Era Band

SEBRING -- The Highlands Social Dance Club will host the music of The Golden Era 16-piece dance band from 7-9:30 p.m. today at the Senior Center, 3400 Sebring Parkway.

Snacks and sandwiches will be available. BYOB (bring your own beverage). Dress is smart casual.

Admission is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Everyone is welcome, including singles.

Istokpoga Shores plans community sale

LORIDA -- Multiple families in the community of Istokpoga Shores have been gathering and pricing all types of goods in preparation for the annual community yard sale. From U.S. 27, travel east on U.S. 98 to Cowhouse Road, right on Cowhouse two miles to right on Fishtail Lane. The sale begins at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

LP Elks plan blood drive

LAKE PLACID -- It's time for the Big Red Bus to visit the Lake Placid Elks Lodge. It will be in the parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. The Elks lodge is behind Winn Dixie on County Road 621.

Wood Carvers show is Saturday

SEBRING -- Highlands Wood Carvers show will be on Saturday at the Sebring Elks Lodge 1529, 2618 Kenilworth Blvd., at the northwest corner of Lakewood Drive.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A donation admission will be charged.

Masonic District plans child ID event

LAKE PLACID -- Masonic District 25 will be doing child ID for children up through 18 years of age from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lake Placid Masonic Lodge, corner of Main Street and Park Avenue.

This is free of charge. You get a CD with your child's pictures, voice, fingerprints, emergency information and DNA.

Jay Smith performs at Sebring Village

SEBRING -- Jay Smith to perform at Sebring Village for a dance from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Saturday in the clubhouse, one mile behind Walmart off Schumacher Road. Admission is $5 per person. BYOB (bring your own beverage) and ice will be provided.

Milly Krause to speak at Democratic Women's Club

SEBRING -- On Saturday, Milly Krause is presenting to the Democratic Women's Club of Highlands County. Krause serves at the Democratic Women's Club of Florida's legislative liaison in charge of advocacy for Florida ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. A continental breakfast is available at 9 a.m., followed by the monthly general club meeting and speaker.

The meeting will take place at Democratic Headquarters, 4216 Sebring Parkway, next to Ruby Tuesday's.

Tickets to the Women's History Celebration at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2 will be sold at the meeting. The celebration includes singing by Highlands County's Amanda Mercer and a presentation by Claire Conner, who is beginning her national book tour to promote her memoirs about growing up in Wisconsin as a daughter of leaders of the John Birch Society.

Shred event set at Statler Financial

SEBRING -- Shred Day will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Statler Financial Services parking lot, in the Keys Professional Plaza, 803 U.S. 27 S.; phone number is 382-0037. This event is sponsored by Statler Financial Services to help the community in the fight against identity theft.

A free list of documents to shred is available online at the website, www.statlerfinancial.com. Limit four boxes; paper documents only. Please remove all binder clips and plastic covers. Paper clips are acceptable.

Fine art workshop is this weekend

Elk Riders will have start-up meet Saturday

LAKE PLACID -- Lake Placid Elks Riders will be having an organizational meeting for the start-up of the Elks Riders Chapter. The meeting will take place at the Lake Placid Elks Lodge at 11 a.m. Saturday. Any members, proposed or prospective member who rides a motorcycle or has an antique auto/truck or sport car are invited to attend as well as any member who is interested.

California Toe Jam play at Music in the Park

SEBRING -- Music in the Park featuring California Toe Jam will be in concert from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring.

Admission is $5; accompanied children age 12 and under admitted free of charge. Park entrance fee is $6 (up to eight people); after 6 p.m., the fee is waived.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets and flashlights as the concert is outdoors. Food is available at the Hammock Restaurant and by local vendors.
