Banner Adpublished: Monday, January 07, 2013 SFSC Community Education announces new spring classes Special to the News-Sun AVON PARK - South Florida State Collegeís Community Education Department is offering new classes for the Spring Flex I term at the SFSC Highlands Campus. In Cooking with Diabetes, a certified health coach will teach participants how to cook and shop for diabetic friendly foods. This eight-week course will include shopping lists, recipes, and cooking demo lessons. The meals prepared are perfect for diabetics and others interested in learning how to shop for and cook delicious, affordable, healthy, low sugar meals. The class meets from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Feb. 26. The cost is $99 and includes supplies. 8 Weeks to a Healthy New You will help participants lose the diet mentality. The class will cover how to cook whole food, greens, grains, and many other foods as well as kitchen essentials, shopping tips and more. The class meets from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 10-Feb. 28. The cost is $83. Learn the basic steps of the Waltz, Cha-Cha, Foxtrot and Swing in Ballroom Dance. This class is designed specifically for beginners, and both couples and singles are welcome. The class meets from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Feb. 26. The cost is $42. Learn the traditional, time-honored method of Hand Quilting in an eight-week class. Participants will make a quilted nine-patch wall hanging using the materials of their choice and will take home a beautiful creation of their own. The class meets from 5:30-7 p.m. Mondays through March 4. The cost is $62. A supply list will be given out during the first class. Learn how to incorporate native and naturalized plants into our south central Florida landscape in Landscaping with Florida's Natural Plants. A tour of the Wildflower Wayside Shrine Trail will be included as well as a trip to Archbold Biological Station to view native plants in their natural habitat. This class will be held from 3-4 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 22-Feb. 26. The cost is $47. Facebook is the most popular social networking website in the world with more than 350 million active users.
