Lady Panthers tripped up

By DAN HOEHNE

The Lady Panther softball squad had just gotten their record above the .500 mark last week with a strong run of five wins in six games.

That streak was cooled off Saturday, however, as SFCC dropped two on the road at Seminole State College.

But it could well be a good sign as the perenially tough Lady Raiders had all they could handle in squeezing out the 4-3 and 5-4 wins.

"We're definitely playing a lot better," California recruit Samantha Peach said. "That was a very good team and we were right with them and gave ourselves chances to win."

Improvement is key as the team works its way through the non-conference schedule.

Thus far, among the Suncoast Conference schools, only the State College of Florida is powering through its schedule and looks like the front-runners.

But with all the other teams hovering around the break-even mark, it looks to be shaping up as a potential free-for-all come conference time.

SFCC hosted Lake Sumter Tuesday and head to Miami Thursday for a double header at Palm Beach State and a twin-bill at Broward on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
