Democrats push to fix broken election system
Highlands County Democrats will be joining a statewide grassroots push to urge Republicans to fix Florida's broken election system. Florida Republicans are giving lip service to election reform, but without the substance needed to avoid another Florida fiasco like 2012.
Many thousands of voters were disenfranchised and Florida's long lines were the laughingstock of the nation. Instead of meaningful reform, the Florida Senate passed a bill (S8600) out of committee that would make voter suppression in Florida worse, not better, by requiring a witness to sign every absentee ballot. This Republican attempt to add even more voter suppression to a bill that is supposedly fixing the problems from last year is simply deceitful.
In 2011, Governor Rick Scott and the Republican-led Legislature passed many election law changes, including restrictions on voter registration and a reduction in early voting from 14 to eight days. Those election law changes were among the factors widely blamed for long lines, and for the thousands of voters who gave up and went home without voting.
Democrats in Tallahassee are demanding substantive changes to fully reform Florida's elections system, including but not limited to returning early voting hours to the 14 days voters received prior to 2012.

Voter Suppression (by: Blindman~ - 4/11/2013)
Fact is... everybody knows there are people that vote who are ineligible, aka "cheaters". And the mass of "cheaters" always vote for the Democratic candidate. So when Republicans want verification of whose voting, the Democrats accuse them of disenfranchisement & voter suppression. It is strange how people will ignore others that are breaking the law by voting when they are ineligible. Yes you know what they are doing but if the "cheaters" are on your side you not only look the other way, you support them. The old adage "by any means necessary" prevails.
