Who has an ear, let him hear
Recently I attended a Sebring City Council meeting. The meeting consisted mostly on the focus in which the city had spent $8,000 or so on an election that only 278 people voted. Being that the number of registered voters were, I believe, is 20 times that which actually voted then. The omission commission seems to be the ruling factor here. If you were not a relative of one of the candidates nor a person working this election, then truly if you voted, you were in a minority and an informed community member.
The voice of the people must be heard concerning the discussion and adoption process on items that we think our elected members would have the good will of the people at stake. What I am referring to is the right for a church, any church, to have a lighted sign as to direct someone in need for the services that we all should strive to promote.
We as children grew up singing "This Little Light of Mine." In Sunday school, we were taught what happened to kings who made decrees against those who were trying to help his people. There may or may not occur handwritings on the wall, but we as a community must not deny access nor try to tie any hand who is trying to serve those who need to hear the truth in spite of political correctness. One member asked, "What about those churches that have had signs out for 20 or 30 years, are you going to ask those churches to take them down?" The answer was, "The policies are there."
Before we have a decree go forth, I urge the people to wake up and since we are not active in our elections, be at the hearings. For those who have an ear to hear, listen to what is being placed on our community.
I write this on my own and not part of any group but as a responsible citizen of the community of Sebring.
talk is cheap (by: flower child - 4/12/2013)
I dont believe for a moment that the sebring council wants more voters... Its just talk to make it look like they do. More voters brings the potential to bring in more opponents. Nobody would want that, would they? God Forbid someone across the railroad trax decided to run. As long as wasp's rule, there is no hurry to change voting dates. If they really want to make it fair- then have elections during the nations presidential elections. But we all know THAT will never happen, Dont we...?
Drawing Attention (by: Blindman~ - 4/12/2013)
Asking provocative questions may draw the wrong kind of attention and lead to unintended consequences. "The policies are there" should be your que to leave it alone so that others who share your interest won't have to be reading the writing on the wall.
