City moves in on wall

SEBRING - Gingerlee Mitchelllindo, owner of a piece of propertyat 503 E. Center Ave., sat alert on her porch for quite a while Wednesday morning awaiting the return of city officials and a demolition team.

The long, drawn-out debacle of Mitchelllindo's retaining wall in her yard is very close to an end as city officials, engineering teams and demolition workers are in full force mode as they prepare to take down the wall.

Mitchelllindo arrived home Wednesday morning to what she described as a "street full" of city vehicles and engineering trucks.

"They just took over the whole road here," Mitchelllindo said, describing the scene on Orange Avenue, which is adjacent to her home.

Mitchelllindo spoke to many people present Wednesday morning and reminded engineering workers unrelated to the issue of the ongoing civil cases she has against the city.

"I told them about the lawsuits and that this is something that they may not want to get involved with," Mitchelllindo said.

Mitchelllindo was informed on site by City Attorney Bob Swaine during the brief encounter that the city had acquired a court order last month that allowed them to take down the wall.

The inspection continued for nearly half an hour. Workers and city officials eventually left the property, without any action taking place, and did not return Wednesday.

City officials have not informed Mitchelllindo on the projected date of the demolition. City Administrator Scott Noethlich stated that the job should be completed before the school holiday break has ended.

She should have been able to keep the wall. No punishment for tackiness. Yes, it looks like the entrance to an art camp for the blind, but it poses no physical threat. Santa Fe and Phoenix love this sort of "bejewled architecture".

Whatever happened to the right to protect a person's property? This resident has a good case for harassment. My heart goes out to her.

Vote Them OUT!  (by: Sebring Woman  -   1/5/2013)

Voters, take HEED! This is YOUR tax money being squandered by "the powers that be" on harassing Gingerlee. "Concerned Citizen" has it right about the double standard of treatment "if you are not part of The Good 'Ole Boys network". Gingerlee and her husband are good, hardworking business owners, and this whole thing was spurred by petty jealousy on the part of their competitors. Voters- next election, let's CLEAN HOUSE and vote out EVERYONE in city and county government who is participating in this miscarriage of justice. THEN, we could also see what happens to a certain city councilman who has been carrying on a surveying business for years WITHOUT proper state licensing.

Gingerlee's wall  (by: Sandy  -   1/5/2013)

I have not seen this wall, but being an ex-New Yorker I believe any security is important. If the City removes her security and something happens to her or her property the City should be held responsible.

Pick on someone else. Leave the ladies wall alone. Bullying is what we teach our kids not to do its time to practice what we teach.

Leave it alone!  (by: Blindman  -   1/4/2013)

That is a nice wall... and it provides security for Ginger's property. How dare you people take that away from her. Nothing good would come from tearing the wall down. Beg off this waste of time and money.

Stop Now  (by: Blindman  -   1/4/2013)

Leave this wall alone. Any possible impediment to traffic view from the Stop Sign is going the other way, eastbound, you freaking dorks! It's ridiculous. Leave this poor woman alone.

Gingerlee's wall  (by: Concerned Citizen in favor of the wall staying  -   1/4/2013)

What harm is this wall causing anyone? Her property is not in a Home Association. What right does the city have? What about all the retention walls on Lakeview Dr? Don't see those people being harassed. When there are so many other issues the city should be getting themselves involved in. But instead the city council wants to harass Miss Gingerlee. Shame on you! I moved here seven years and am finding out if your not part of The Good 'Ole Boys network the city just does what it wants. Let the wall stay!

I don't understand!  (by: Sebring_Resident  -   1/4/2013)

Can anybody please explain to me why part of this citizen's property has to be demolished by the city? What is the purpose of tearing down part of her property? Are there any real threats, dangers, or harm to the city with this property?
