SEBRING - Race fans can get an early start to the season this year with the annual Circle of Speed event Thursday.

The 'New and Improved' Circle of Speed kicks off the 12 Hours of Sebring Race Week a couple weeks early with the approval of the Sebring Chamber of Commerce.

Coordinator and owner of Plan B Promotions Lora Todd has worked hard to ensure this year's Circle of Speed is a big step up from previous years.

"We decided to change it up a little bit so that attendees get better service this year. We had some issues last year, and we are the new and improved Circle of Speed. We're going to do things differently," Todd said.

Last year's all-you-can-eat beer and brats method was a challenge for coordinators and vendors so this year Todd has decided to do a more traditional food vending method.

For $5, guests can enjoy a beer and a brat while listening to live music and checking out real race cars.

"The (race car) drivers were very enthusiastic last year. When they left the event they told their friends and invited others," Todd said. "We had 25 cars last year but the race coordinator is expecting more than that this year."

The vintage race car display will set up at 5 p.m. in downtown Sebring along Circle Park Drive. Attendees are able to view the classic cars as well as have the opportunity to met some of the racers themselves.

Circle of Speed will feature live music from the Rebound Band, snowcones from Snowie of Sebring, beer, brats and other refreshments. The event will take place from 5-9 p.m. The race cars will arrive at 5 p.m. and leave promptly at 7 p.m. to ensure their safe drives back to the Sebring International Raceway.

"We wanted to do something special downtown to be a part of the races, that's why this was started. That's why I stepped in. With the blessing of the chamber, and help from the Heartland Riders Association we are able to hold this event and bring it to Downtown Sebring," Todd said.
