14 Sprint Series races set for weekend
SEBRING – It appears that Race Week in 2013 at the Sebring International Raceway will begin with a bang. Officials of the Sports Car Vintage Racing Association have announced that entries for their combined event here this weekend have surpassed 235 cars.
Preliminary figures show the opening event of SVRA’s nine race 2013 East Coast Championship series.had already logged 185 entries more than a week ago.
“We normally get 10 to 15 more cars entering at the last minute," said SVRA President & CEO Tony Parella .
Trans Am Race Series spokesman John Clagett said the entry of 38 cars for the first competition of the year represents the largest number of Trans Am cars to compete at Sebring since 2001.
“Our first event last year drew 18 entrants, the strong turnout speaks both to the new direction of the series and the draw of a great track like Sebring that hosted the first ever Trans Am race in 1966,” said Clagett.
The weekend schedule calls for a total of 14 exciting Sprint Series races including thee Keenan Motors Endurance series events, with a 90-minute nighttime enduro on Friday evening
In addition to the racing action, the SVRA will take the opportunity to celebrate the 60th birthday of Corvette at Sebring International Raceway. There will be a huge car show in the infield with all classes, including C1-C6, modified and stock, show, shine and drive.
Additionally Sebring track tours be offered.
Tickets for the weekend's event may be purchased at the gate. Saturday tickets are $20 each. Sunday’s admission is $25 and includes the 27-lap, 100-mile Trans Am race series Feature Race in addition to a full slate of SVRA Vintage races. Children under 16 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
