Sebring Council to discuss sidewalks, signs Tuesday
By SAMANTHA GHOLAR
SEBRING -- Council members will revisit a few tabled items Tuesday evening, including a discussion on the reconstruction and replacement of sidewalks in the Woodlawn Subdivision.
Building and zoning code officer Lee Tolar presented the proposal to fix some cracked and damaged sidewalks within the area in February. Council members agreed to table the item in order to take some time to look at the proposed areas.
The council discussed the idea of leaving some streets without sidewalks rather than putting in new ones to cut down on the costs of the replacement and refurbishment of existing, damaged sidewalks.
Tolar was given the go ahead to replace damaged areas, but the Council will discuss what to do about the costs of the rest of the project. Tolar has spoken with a representative from the Public Risk Management office to verify what can and can not be done about the missing and partial sidewalk areas.
The council members will also revisit the sign ordinance. Council members requested City Attorney Bob Swaine to amend the city's sign code to accommodate Bountiful Blessings Church of God. The church is seeking a larger sign, comparable to the neighboring church signs in the area, to be placed in front of their building.
The amendment could allow for free-standing lighted ID signs of not more than 32 square feet at places of assembly (with persons 25 or more).
City Administrator will Scott Noethlich is also requesting an executive session to discuss collective bargaining issues. City officials and the firefighter's union will meet to hash out the issues between the two entities following the special magistrate's recommendations, which were received last week.
Council meeting will be held at City Hall at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
