Sankar named outstanding soloist

AVON PARK -- Gopaul Sankar, a sophomore at Walker Memorial Academy, was awarded an outstanding soloist trophy at the annual Music U.S.A. Festival at Universal Studio Orlando.

Only five soloists were singled out for this honor.

Sankar played the tenor steel drum at the music festival. At the academy, he has participated not only in the Fire 'n Steel Drum Band, but also the bell choir, concert choir, brass ensemble and is first chair trumpet player in the concert band.

Gopaul is the son of Kamaldai Sankar and Dr. Deo Sankar of Sebring.

Park Elementary's SAC meets Thursday

AVON PARK -- Park Elementary School's Advisory Council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The agenda includes a district SAC report, comprehensive planning, allocations, SRTS - (Grant for street lights), DATA update, discuss officer election, and budget.

Academy hosts 'Spring Fling'

AVON PARK - The public is invited for some food, fun and games at the 'Spring Fling' Carnival being held at the Walker Memorial Academy gymnasium from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 19. Proceeds will benefit the Eagles Athletic Programs.

Academy children put on Spring Musical Concert

AVON PARK - Come and listen to the prekindergarten through grade 6 students in a Spring Musical performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3 in the Walker Memorial Academy gymnasium.

Grades seven through 12 students will put on musical performances in concert band, choral and the nationally awarded Fire 'n Steel drums at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 9, also in the Walker Memorial Academy gymnasium.
