HCSO investigating attempted murder and suicide
SEBRING -- Deputies are investigating an incident on Saturday in Sebring that left one man dead and another critically injured.
According to a press release from the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to 3500 Cindy's Lane on a suspicious incident call. Before they arrived, the caller told Central Dispatch that a gunshot had been heard.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they saw a male subject, later identified as 71-year-old Edward Lee Dazey, in his garage armed with a shotgun that was pointed in the direction of the approaching deputies. The deputies immediately took cover and subsequently heard a loud bang.
After receiving no response from verbal commands directed at the subject, a HCSO K-9 was sent into the garage. Deputies found Dazey had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and EMS was called however, Dazey was dead at the scene.
Acting on information received on the scene, deputies proceeded to 3515 Cindy's Lane in search of another possible gunshot victim. There they found Robert Hugh Delaney, 85, critically injured with a gunshot wound. Delaney was flown out by Aeromed for treatment of his injuries.
Chief Deputy Mark Schrader advised detectives are working this investigation as an attempted-murder and suicide. Detectives have learned there has been an ongoing dispute between the two subjects.
