AP garbage pickup schedule changing for holiday

AVON PARK -- The City of Avon Park Public Works garbage pick-up schedule in observance of Memorial Day is as follows: No garbage on Monday, May 25. Monday garbage moves to Tuesday, May 26. Tuesday moves to Wednesday, May 27. Thursday and Friday pickups will be the same as usual.

SWFWMD Governing Board to meet in Highlands County

SEBRING -- The Southwest Florida Water Management District's Governing Board will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday at the Highlands County Government Center, 600 S. Commerce Avenue in Sebring.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. The Governing Board will elect members to serve as chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer. Officers elected will serve a one-year term.

On Tuesday, the Governing Board will visit Lallymix Blueberry Farm in Hardee County. The farm participated in the District's Facilitating Agriculture Resource Management Systems (FARMS) program. Board members will see how the program helped the farm reduce groundwater pumping.

The Governing Board typically meets on the last Tuesday of the month. This month the meeting is being held on Wednesday before the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
