APPD investigating sexual predator
AVON PARK -- The Avon Park Police Department is currently conducting an investigation of a registered sexual predator who resides in Avon Park.
APPD detectives arrested 43-year-old Louis J. Gutierrez on Tuesday for luring or enticing a child.
As a result of Gutierrez's arrest the Department of Corrections Probation and Parole office violated his current probation status. Gutierrez is currently incarcerated in the Highlands County Jail with no bond.
APPD investigators say Gutierrez tried to lure an 11-year old male child into his vehicle on Monday. The child was standing behind a local business when Gutierrez arrived in his vehicle, exited, told the child "get in the car" and motioned with his hand for the child to come to him. The child responded for Gutierrez to "get away," which a witness overheard. The witness intervened and Gutierrez fled the area in his vehicle.
Gutierrez, who lives at 108 Wiggins Ave. in Avon Park, was later stopped and identified by police in the vicinity of the incident. He has two prior convictions for lewd or lascivious assault on a child and a prior conviction for sexual battery.
The City of Avon Park Police Department is actively looking for other possible victims whom Gutierrez may have had the same type of encounters with. If anyone has any information about other potential victims of Gutierrez, please contact the Avon Park Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 863-452-4422.
