Lake Placid Relay For Life kickoff party set for Oct. 11
Special to the News-Sun
LAKE PLACID -- The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life program is preparing for the 2013 event, which will be on April 6-7 at the High School football field. This annual fundraising event is a way to involve the entire community in a day of fun and remembrance. It all begins with a Kickoff party on Oct. 11 at the Holiday Inn Express in Lake Placid.
Some members of our community recently attended a summit conference in Orlando to get the latest information about cancer research and about how Relay For Life can help those who are dealing with this disease.
Emma Reynolds, the event chair, and Ginger Keimel, the team cevelopment chair, have lots of information to share with the teams in Lake Placid.
Every Relay For Life event includes special moments to honor the survivors in our community, and hopefully those individuals will come forward and be part of this event.
There is also a special time to remember those who have lost their battles, and this is done with a luminaria ceremony at sundown. There's always plenty of food, games and activities to entertain people of all ages.
Each Relay For Life event chooses a theme every year. In Lake Placid, the theme for 2013 is "Passport to a Cure," so each team will decorate their campsite according to the country they select.
Many new and returning teams have already signed up, but more teams are needed to make the event a success, and the kickoff party is the opportunity to learn all about Relay For Life.
For more information, please contact Ginger Keimel at 863-465-7930, or the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345.
