Pink Army troops ready to march
By SAMANTHA GHOLAR
SEBRING -- Lotela Gold will sing the night away, Highlands Little Theatre will provide "mocktails" and the Highlands Art League will help participants strut through the Yellow House Saturday during the annual Pink Army Strut Presented by Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center.
Dr. Jeff Saunders is excited that he and Lotela will be a part of the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign for the second year in a row.
"We participated in the Pink Army last year. This year we've sort of freshened it up. We're going to have a new show, new songs and just a different line-up of music. We're a 50s- and 60s-era band, so everyone knows sort of the type of music to expect," Saunders said.
The Yellow House of Highlands Art League will be open from 5-8 p.m. Saturday during the Pink Army festivities. Tours will be given to participants and guests along with special treats and surprises.
The Highlands Little Theatre is also a part of the strut, which was moved to the downtown Sebring area for this year's event. During the short "strut," walkers will head to HLT and HAL for fun pit stops.
The Pink Army Strut is selling out quickly. The event has tickets for 500 participants. For a $20 registration fee, participants may talk a short walk (less than one mile) through downtown Sebring in a sea of pink to help promote breast cancer awareness. The money raised through the strut will go to the Florida Hospital Heartland Mammography Fund, providing mammograms for local residents who are in need.
Along with a the pink strut, the event will hold a best pink costume contest, a car show, live music, food and drinks.
