Heartland Idol finds a new home
By CHRISTOPHER TUFFLEY
SEBRING -- "We're not homeless anymore," said Diana Walker laughing. She is the founder of the Heartland Idol talent contest.
Born on the Historic Circle, the multiple day event dealt with problems in scheduling and bad weather from its beginning. Organizers quit the park as a venue.
It took over a year, but the Heartland Idol has found a new, permanent home at the Highlands County Family YMCA.
At the same time, the organizers decided to move the contest to early in the year, as opposed to the fall.
Heartland Idol 2013 will be held in the basketball pavilion at the Y in January and February. Details are still being worked out.
"There will be no rain delays," Walker said, "and it might not be as hot.
"We're still sticking to Thursday evenings. The Idol Cafe will remain open, and it's still bring-your-own-lawn- chair," she said.
The Idol has a group page on Facebook, and will post the most recent developments as they occur.
Walker said new and old volunteers and sponsors are welcome.
